Every Bed, Every 15 Minutes: ReddiNet Launches HBEDS for Near Real-time Hospital Capacity Across California

PR Newswire

Automated statewide network replaces manual reporting, meets federal requirements and is ready to scale to other states

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- When an emergency hits, knowing where open hospital beds are is critical. ReddiNet® has launched the Hospital Bed and Emergency Data System (HBEDS) for the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), giving healthcare and government leaders automated, near real-time visibility into staffed hospital beds statewide.

Hospital Bed and EMS Data System

HBEDS pulls capacity data directly from participating hospitals' electronic health record systems and refreshes it every 15 minutes, replacing a manual reporting process. Authorized users can see staffed capacity at the facility, county, regional and state levels, helping them move patients faster, coordinate resources and manage surges during routine operations and emergencies alike.

"Hospital capacity can change rapidly throughout the day," said George Greene, president and CEO, Hospital Association of Southern California. "HBEDS improves coordination across the healthcare system to get patients to the appropriate level of care faster."

CDPH selected ReddiNet in June 2026 to operate the statewide system. Hospital onboarding began in August and is expanding across California's general acute care hospitals.

"HBEDS creates one shared view of hospital capacity," said Tammi McConnell, MSN, RN, senior vice president, ReddiNet. "It also strengthens emergency preparedness by establishing baseline trend data, so changes in patient volume and hospital capacity can be detected early."

HBEDS meets federal hospital capacity reporting requirements and supports state reporting, freeing hospital staff from manual data entry. The result: less time reporting capacity, more time caring for patients. Built to scale beyond California, HBEDS is available to other states seeking automated, near real-time visibility into hospital capacity.
